Check it. Read it. Stack it. Blog it.

Hellow again and welcome to my final blog.

Since I can remember I have been attempting the climb of Mount Rushmore-Homework and Projects as I am sure many of you out there can relate. I find that I am not surfing the web for fun anymore, well at least not lately. My time spent on the internet is slotted into three main categories; blackboard, e-mail, and research. So when I think of fun websites I have been to lately I can hardly think of anything good.

I will say this though through my researching, and scoureing of the interenet, I have found some very good resources for all things that relate to advertising, and my career.

Non of which stands out more then BlueSkyResumes.com

Maybe it is because I want to get into Web, Interactive and Social Media advertising, but I have been really appreciating and taking notice of well designed, well thought out, and profitable websites.

This website in particular not only has a very welcoming, and dare I say "edgy-cute" design to it. (Got that term from the Simpsons episode I watched earlier, I thought it was a good fit)

The website is designed to be very user-friendly, but not by dumbing things down.

Though what really catches me is that not-only do they provide professional resume writting services, meaning they will write you a killer resume for money, but they also realize that you might not have money and they offer around 50 free sample resumes, all categorized by the field of work they are going into. Not only do they offer great layout designs, but also the content on the samples is not lorem ipsum, its actually the real content so you can get a good idea of what you should put in.
Sample Resume for Internet Marketer

Not only do they give you all that for free, but they also offer a free resume writting course which is emailed to you about every 2 days. The each email is tailored to a specific stage in your resume writting process, and provides useful information about how employers read, and percive resumes.

There are 'paid' portions and services of the website, but what they offer to you for free are the resources to do it yourself, and help you along.

I am impressed by the level of publishing, knowledge, and generostiy of this website, that if I wasn't an advertising student, and were going into anything else I would definatly consider paying for them to write a resume.

YesterYear and the World of Tomorrow

Its 1950, and television is capturing the hearts of people, and advertisers then ever before. By this time most middle class, and all upper class families have a television set. Television is allowing advertisers to inform consumers like never before possible, they can now talk about a product like on radio, the visual effects used in print, and the ability to demonstrate its use as if in person.

Which is evident that, that is what they were thinking when they made a lot of these commercials. Most of them come off a glorified sales pitches, focused on explaining ALL of the features of a product whether people cared or not.

Television quickly became the new prestige medium, and company wanted to get on it, and for those companies that had the means to create a commercial had the possibility of becoming an instant success. Not to mention with there only being 3 or 4 stations, and some not being available in all areas, you knew that the "world", or at least majority of North America would see your commercial.

Here is a compilation of several car, and food commercials which aired in the 1950's and possibly '60's.

I must say I was actually surprised to notice how well they actually 'positioned' their brands, and their products. I had originally expected many of these to just talk about the product benefits, and then say buy it. Well technically they did, but most of them didn't take it overboard to point of making it boring, and strictly informational. I would even go as far to say that the car companies then did a better job at positioning their cars, then they do currently.

Although it must have been easier in those days because consumers weren't as segmented, and differentiated in their tastes, lifestyles, and attitudes; the men went to work, the women cleaned the home, and kids like candy, and you either had lots of money, or cared about finding a good price. At least this is the way that the media has portrayed society in the 1950's through commercials, television, and movies.
over here; metaphorically speaking of
In the world of tomorrow consumers are here, and there, and course. This makes advertising much more difficult. From knowing how you will talk to them, to why, to when, to what you will talk to them about, and lets not forget WHERE we are going to even be able to reach them. This is why I believe that the positioning and targeting of advertisements in the 1950's was much better, or at least from what I can see from researching.

Though I will say this "WE ARE WAY MORE CREATIVE! Take that 1950's society!". Though this is out of necessity as mentioned before consumers are more segmented then ever, but also consumers believe that they have seen everything by now, so we need to be able to show them something new, and exciting just to get them to give us 15 to 30 measly seconds of their time.

Now I want to leave you with another type of nostalgia, and interest for me. 1950's predictions of the future.

Social Marketing - Pepsi Refresh Campaign

Pepsi's campaign for 2010 is a completely revolutionary and welcomed way of advertising in social media, that has been taking over the social media market by storm since it's release in June, 2010. Pepsi Co. had announced this year that it would not be having a Super Bowl ad this year, and instead would launch a $20 million dollar social media campaign, in which anyone could submit their idea to 'refresh' the world.

The project has been promoted on television, radio, as well as internet advertising, and youtube videos, but what really made this launch successful was social media, and its infinite amount of potential for word-of-mouth. The campaign actually hit it off in late 2009, with this commercial in order to introduce the idea before the contest began in 2010.

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4eX7Dl8Dn0I?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4eX7Dl8Dn0I?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Pepsi is awarding the top ideas of the month, that's right the month, grants ranging from $5,000 - $250,000 to get them off the ground, and 'refresh' the world as they say.

Consumers, companies, social and environmental activists a like have shown their interest, support, and ideas by the millions. As of Sept 23, 2010 the Pepsi Refresh Project Page on Facebook has 1,237,570 people, in just less then 4 months, that is more then 10,700 people a day 'like'ing their page on Facebook.

But that number is dwarfed compared to the amounts of comments, votes, recommendations, Facebook posts, Twitters, and all other user interactions done in the name of the Pepsi Refresh Project.

If you are a socially, or, environmentally conscious person I suggest you support what ever passion you have, and Submit Your Idea to the Pepsi Refresh Project.

Here are some tips once you have submitted your idea. PROMOTE IT!

Start a Facebook, start a Twitter, start any and every kinds of social media you use, just for your idea, then get all of you hundreds of friends to join, and tell them to invite all of their hundreds of friends. Comment on blogs that are related, maybe that persons readers want the same change as you do, you never know right?

There are a lot of things we can say are wrong in this world, and we can all talk about it within our small social circles, but now you can't say "WHERE DO I START?" you start here(Pepsi Refresh Application), then here(Your Facebook), then go here(Twitter), then here(Idea Facebook Page), and then here(Forums), and just wait and see how you can refresh the world.

Common Pepsi wants you to use their money to do good, so get out there and get some support.
